Tiling Onto Ply Wood

good evening people.

Could some one out there give me advice on tiling onto a marine plywood wall?
I am using ball green adhesive.
Can I uni bond the ply 1st to seal it then tile onto it?

Best advise is don't do it 😉

What tile are you fixing?
Has the backs and sides of the boards been sealed?

Don't do it.
Over board the ply with suitable backer board.
Tank if in wet area
Use appropriate adhesive and grout

Yer going to use sdr primer with bal grip adhesive

The tiles are Brick 6 x 4 tiles

What you will find if you tile onto ply it is extremely likely to form a crack though the tiles on the line of where two sheets join due to the wood moving because it's not atmospherically stable.
Far safer to either overboard or remove and fix Fibre cement tiling backerboard for wet areas HardieBacker 12mm
And then tile

My pet hate is ply, in a bathroom, on the walls.......I would seriously consider over boarding it with something more suitable.

I've taken your advice and covered it with hardi backer board, the trouble I have now is with the tiles. They are small brick tiles. And using a 6mm trowel the adhesive doesn't seem to be getting enough on the backs of the tiles. The outer edge is getting caught by the adhesive but the middle isn't. Should I use a 10mm trowel or dot and dab the tiles on the wall

Use a trowel will big enough notches to give a solid bed of adhesive on back of tile.

Have the tiles got concave back? .... I did some brick tiles last year that were like this. Only option is to back fill the tiles. If you use a bigger notched trowel the adhesive will start to come through the joints and that will leave you with more cleaning to do and may take you longer.

Yes they have a slight indent. Yes I have applied the adhesive to the back now instead and some on the wall
