Hi Guys,

I've got a bunch of chinese slate tiles for the kitchen. Can you tell me if there is a reasonable value slate tile sealant I can buy? I've got almost 50m2 to sleal after the tiler goes! He starts tomorrow. I'll ask him if he can get some trade stuff but I thought it may be woth asking you guys if you know of a good cheap product. I'm getting tight for cash!

Re: Which slate selaler?

Have not used it so cant comment. Most tilers use LTP, Lithofin, or Aquamix...So i think that answers your question. It does sound like it is a topical sealer to me so will need re-applying quite frequently as it will wear off the surface of the stone. Slate is not very porous so a premium sealer should go quite along way.

Re: Which slate selaler?

Due to being readily availible in 5L cans i would use LTP colour enhancer. Get the tiler to buy it he will get it abit cheaper than the online price. Make sure the area is well ventilated as the stuff does smell alot usually find myself away with the fairies after using the stuff! LTP is the cheapest of the 3 sealers mentioned by enduro.

To be honest, sealing the tiles is the easy bit, actually making sure they are clean enough is a different matter!!! For an easy sealing solution have a look at Universeal Rapid-All-in-One. It comes in aerosol cans or a bigger tank based version.
