When work starts to slow down , what do you do......

When works start to slow down / slacken off , what do you do to bring more work in.

Do you just sit waiting for the phone to ring or do you get out there etc and chase new customers/contracts ...

I usally get on the phone, go round the tile shops and give them a little nudge

but i use the slow times to get every thing in order
Sort those receipts ,clean the van,and even maybe clean the tools

go to the pub, with the excuse of looking for some work, and sometimes it even works

Business cards door to door has always been my way of getting a bit extra when I've needed to, fortunately I've not had to do it for 18 months or so.

You could try looking at your local planning applications online. If you search for your local area you will find recent planning applications that have been passed along with names and addresses etc so you can write and introduce your services. I know a few people do this but try and be a bit different by not going on about yourself, everyone does that and all the letters just seem the same - instead explain the benefits the customer would get having you do their work

You could always pop around local sites and talk to the builders, although most will already have a tiler they use all the time, you do have a chance that their usual guy will be too busy and if you can step in and help them out they will always think of you again in the future, or ring around the local builders in the local paper, yellow pages or yell.com.

I usually talk to contacts in the trade e.g. tilers, joiners and plumbers etc. Go on facebook and uploads pics of work or post offers or adverts on community pages.

I also do agency work when things are quiet. A few weeks ago I was on a building site working on a passive housing project through an agency.

If I can afford to I might just chill for a week or two and do some things around the house and garden.
