We are tiling a very small shower room. I have hear designers say that to make a small room look bigger, use bigger tiles. What are your views?

I want to tile right down to the floor and do away with skirting board. I am having vinyl flooring. would that look okay?

Not sure whether do use a border, would it make the room look smaller? Shopuld I opt for a few relief tiles. (I intend to do it all white)?:grouphug:

I know that designers say that bigger tiles will make the room look bigger, but personally I think that it is more important to have a tile size that is in balance with the room size, as an example if you had a 50m2 open plan area within your home putting 20mmx20mm mosaics on the floor would look odd it could take a larger format say 450x450. The same applies for a smaller room of say 10m2 it would look out of balance if you stuck 600x600 tiles around the room.

I prefer to have a tiled floor in a bathroom, but I'm biased towards tile so if you must use vinyl then there is no reason why this would not look good.

Borders and friezes are in fashsion down here, although more people are opting for vertical feature strips rather than horizontal friezes.

All white walls with a vertical feature strip contrasting in colour would look great, If you were to go with a tiled floor may I suggest a darker colour for the floor, It will stay cleaner for longer and give the bathroom depth.

Here's a few pics for ideas

I went for 600mm x 300mm tiles "brick style" in a small bathroom with VINYL floor (not tiles) Because I dont like cold tiles underfoot.

And a little matching rug to stand on after shower.

Kept everything plain and neutral and either cream or ivory including grout, Silicon, vinyl, tiles, rug

Thanks for that. I have decided I am going to use 250 x 350 white tile, brick style with no skirting and just a chrome strip instead of border tiles just about dad rail height. It is so small in there that it needs to be simple and clean looking. I have slate couloured vinyl for the floor and the facia on my electric shower will be black shiny glass. I think overall it will look okay, well I am crossing my fingers. I appreciate both of your messages, it has helped me to decide.

|OOOOh didn't mean dad rail height, should have been dado, co's dad height could mean anything, eh????lol!!

I was quite lucky being a small room I only had a handful of full 900mm cuts. I've only got a topps cutter atm so looking to upgrade some after that lil number!!
