Q

quick draw macgraw

Hi all,

got possible job for beauty salon but its half tiled at moment and she is quite tight so she wants tiling on top of tiles but its only a dividing plaster board wall and she wants large format putting over. Should i knock this back cos the tiles are going to stand proud of the architrave when it comes to the door and gona look crap. She also has laminate down on floor which i've told her employee that it has to come up, am i wasting my time with someone who has lots of money (i know she has) or should i knock it back.

The customer is always right, most you find will pay the extra for the better, longer job. However if the salon is shut then you are also taking up her customer time the longer the shop is shut, are you not ?

Hello fellow biker i understand ur postion maybe u sud give it a go if she is tight and adamant.

Some times folk just wil not listen so u have ot ask ur self if i dont do it some one else will. Best of luck

i Would do the job coz its like raja says - If you dont somebody else will. The best thing to do is say ill do it for this price but unfortunatley i will not offer a guarnentee on my work ,as you have gone against my recommended advice, that way your covered should the worst happen

Thanks lads the salon will still be open its one of the spray tan rooms, where she has tiles already she wants new tiles to go over and also onto wall where there are no tiles so will it be possible to use cement addy to allow for height difference or would it be easier to rip walls down and replace.

Steve.

p.s. thats a nice bike Raja does it not do your head in having to restrict yourself whilst running in?

Had this many time, customers wanting things like tile over tile and it just wouldn't look right once it was done, and once you add in the cost of removing old tiles your price becomes a lot more than other quotes.

So it's either say, I'll only do a propper job and most probably lose the job, or do what they want and maybe get them to sign a sort of work statment saying what they have asked you to do, to cover yourself and get the job.

I've had one recently who wanted large format over existing small tiles. This also would have taken them proud of the architrave.

I tried my best to explain but I kind of knew when I left that I hadn't got through to her. I ended up going back with the tile in question. Once I held it on the wall and she saw it for herself, it twigged and I got the job proper.

Also I mentioned the weight risk etc.

Unfortunately you've got to be able to sell the benefits of using you (a professional) over the customer's perceived benefits of using a quick cheap fix.

It's also good to say to your customer that "there are some guys who would happily do it the wrong way, but as I intend to stay in business, I've got to do it the right way" - or words to that effect.
