The Tile Association is undoubtedly a worthy body and I imagine that their annual awards dinner is a suitably corporate event - but with tickets at about £100 a throw, I guess that your average tile fixer wont be attending.

First off - anyone from here attending?

Secondly - the mind boggles at what they award for.... best grey adhesive in a cementitious s2 format..... best Silicon marketing campaign in 2010...... most innovative tiling trowel..... and the lifetime achievement award goes goes to a man who has spent his life in profiles.....

I love tiling, but my reward comes from what I do not what I can keep on the mantlepiece. And £99.50 for dinner? We are kidding? Is this a recession?

You ever been to one of the tiler dinner evenings Andy..?

I see they are hosted around the country.

In answer to OP.. these are big corporate events, hence price tag.. dicky bow dinner do's..🙂

no dave there always down south bit to far for steak n chips..i always get an invite though:smilewinkgrin:

Dave - never been to as Tilers Awards, but as a country boy, I have been to the Butchers Awards Dinner (at Bath & West Showground). Now that was worth every penny of the ticket - I have never tasted beef so delicious and mouth watering - but thats what made it worthwhile going. We had nothing to do with Butchery - but went as guests of our local butcher - oh and top entertainment too - The Wurzels (live and unleashed):lol::lol:

oohh arrrr..

Yep, same as Dave, corporate dinners do have that kind of price tag, one of the fewer occasions now to get all togged up, long dresses for the ladies, black tie for the guys, and loads of positive up-talk, American style, with applause and awards inside a cloud of smiles, perfume and aftershave and - as it is always claimed, masses of useful networking opportunities. Been to a few of those myself, feel acutely uncomfortable and so do most others, everybody playing this game of hyper excitment and class, a strange mix of inspiration and depression after, as all along you get swept along in the fanfare of it all and none of it relates to real life. HOWEVER, if they didn't work they wouldn't be held, and those who love joining organised evenings and dressing up and being seen, it's great, and worth paying for.

I'd love to go to one, even if I didn't know anyone at the start, I'm damned sure I'd get to know a few peeps by the end. Never been shy when it comes to talking about something I love doing.

Sounds like a good night to me and is cheaper than our annual sportsmans dinner. Love a black tie night out and always a more civilised way to get hammered.

i have blaged my way in to one of these dinners it was so good and you do have a laugh and you can meet some of the top people in the industry.

theres a saying, money goes to money..you could look at £100 a ticket as an expensive night out or a damn cheap way of putting your company name about amongst influential people....its all relative really isnt it

It's an excuse for a good night out and the big wigs to blow their trumpet.
Lovely combination i think.lol

i would imagine its a great thing...a chance for some of the best from the industry to meet, make contatcs and have a great night

Its a Tilers Ball that's what it is.
Good on them i say, my local Armatile has TTA awards in a display cabinet for everyone to see.Nice.

agree with the good night bit joe, but I'd like to think that the big wigs don't need to blow their own trumpet, as most likely they'll know each other anyway. I'd imagine there'd be the compulsory chit chat shop talk, how we can improve the industry, what we need to clamp down on etc etc etc.....then dim the house lights and have a good old knees up:thumbsup:
