Tiling walls with skirtings removed - Tile Advice

Hi all, we have had the floor tiles up to the skirtings. I am now going to tile the toilet walls 1/2 height. I have removed the skirtings and preped the walls etc but wanting to know how I would start due to there not being an edge for the first tile to sit on and I can not get a baton in there.
Tiles are 330 x 590 8mm ceramic and using tilemaster magix-s adhesive. Just worried about slippage.
I wanted to start the tile 1-2mm above the floor tile, there will be a silicon bead after anyway.
Also would you just do the bottom row all the way round first then move up to the next row or is it ok to do the bottom row then the next wall at a time?
Wasn't sure with the tile size.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What's stopping you from using a baton? You can use other items to prop up a row, boxes of tiles or off cuts of tiles and tweak with wedges or prop with anything really. Cutting the bottom row in first will be rather tricky with that gap as you have probably imagined already.

As above, if l were you ld tile off a baton. Is your floor level? If not, set your baton level a tile height above the lowest point, ( if that works out with the rest of the set-out.

There's going to be fair old gap between wall and floor tiles, average skirting is 20mm then trying to use an 8mm tile to cover it..

Only 2 tiles high and the bottom one I'm not cutting in just going to get lowest point and set it 1mm higher roughly as I said bead of silicon will cover gap at the end.
But there is nothing to sit the bottom tile on as the floor tile won't be under the wall tile there will also be 1-2mm gap. Maybe need to see if I can get off cuts of wood or cardboard and just pack it. I have leveling clips I could use but due to the floor tiling gap they won't work.

Skirting is 16mm and have 15mm trowel so 7.5mm adhesive bed. So tile will end up roughly 15mm from wall.

I was thinking this too Andy, will be quite a gap.

If you feel confident you are able to cover that complete gap with silicone then why not just cut a strip of tile to fit in that gap and go off that, propping the first tile up with spacers/wedges

Tile off a batton on your next row up then fix and duck tape bottom row up to that...the thickness gap will be noticeable though

Also bare in mind how are you filling that 7.5mm gap your plan to build out at the top of the tiles?

Good idea with the duct tape. Thanks.
Don't think there will be a massive gap a few mm that will be covered.

Also bare in mind how are you filling that 7.5mm gap your plan to build out at the top of the tiles?

12.5mm box trim so with that fitted will be a few mm gap again but then decorators caulk will hide that.

Thanks will take some pictures, in theory should be fine but rarely things run as they should.
