Hi, I have a bathroom to tile with ceramic tiles, one wall is lined with Hardi Backer Board, the builder has supplied Granfix Supa Grip, I told him I thought the Adhesive should be a bagged cement based, I checked with local tile shop they say cement based.
The builder says he has checked and the Supa Grip is OK.
Which is the correct adhesive and why.

:helpsmilie:

Cement based for me, especially as its in a wet area. Tubbed adhesives are, a)Likely to fail if they are exposed to water for even short periods of time, cement based won't, b) Wont support a tile any bigger than 300x300mm and c) Can't be put on any thicker than 6mm ( this does vary from each manufacturer), so if there are places that need building out (dips in the walls etc) then it can't be done.

Who is the tiler here..?

Tell the builder to stop being a tight *** and get you want you want to use, after all you are the tiler and you are offering the guarantee... not some cheap scate builder..🙂

I agree with the guys above. Tubbed adhesive is suitable BUT powder adhesive is far better in just about every way.

Give the builder a slap and get him to get you some powder and do the job the right way

My favourite is when a builder gets the exact amount of tiles for the job..and by exact i mean exact!!!
