G sent the pics to me yesterday while I was on the job site, and I was struggling to see these pics with my phone. I could tell that this piece was breathtaking to see, but the tiny screen of the phone wasn't doing it justice. I had to wait about 10 hours before I could get home and get to my computer to see these photos full size, and it was like waiting for Christmas when I was a kid!
Mother's Day is May 8th, and if this piece can make it here in time I will make a frame and get it mounted so it's ready to hang on the wall. Gisela left a lip around the perimter so I can frame it. Now, I just need to figure out what I am going to do with this. My first thought was to go to my hardwood supplier and find a really nice piece of wood to use to mill a large, wide frame. Now, I'm thinking something minimal is best, and that way the mosaics are enhanced and the frame really doesn't stand out much.
THe story on the penguins is that my wife has been nutso about penguins for years (remember that movie "March of the Penguins"?). She has various penguin knick-knacks around the house, and I thought it would be wonderful to get Gisela to make something that was truly custom and one-of-a-kind. Gisela has delivered all that I had imagined and more!

:hurray:
Gisela and I spoke by phone numerous times about the project, and one time when she called Mrs Z answered the phone. I thought at first :yikes:, but later Christina asked "who was that?", and I said "Oh a friend from the tile forum in England, and she had some questions for me about an installation she's doing, and it was easier to talk on the phone rather than send emails back and forth".
Christina said "Oh that's nice, and Gisela sounds very nice on the phone". Whew! Close one!
