Silicon

We all have prefered grouts and adhesives, but what about silicones? Are there some that are easier to work with than others? And i'm not talking about implants!!!!:wink_smile:

I use the stuff that my local tile store provides, or sometimes I go to Wickes and use their own brand stuff.

All pretty much the same really 🙂

I use bal sealant, and ive got those rubber things from trade tiler to finish it of, a little spray of water and washing up liquid then smooth off, looks the dogs!!!

yes you need to get the red ones in a black case, then silicon what you need too, get a little hand sprayer from trade tile aswell mix little bit of washing up liquid with water and give it a fine spray then finish it off with them looks brill. Ive seen lots of good tiling jobs, and the silicon is really bad and it really lets the job down.

I just use the Silicon from my local tile shop, have been looking at those rubber things on tile trader also, might get them to try after reading this thread.

To be honest, using my finger with the soapy water works a treat for me, but just wondered of they worked or not. There are a lot of gimmicky tools you can buy these days, but most tend to be a rip off. 🙂

Its the washing up liquid and the water that does the trick, best tool on the market is from screwfix (orange) or wicks (blue) , like a finger with a hard rubber profile on the end £2.75, gets behind the taps. The ones from trade tiler at about a tenner are the Karl Damm ones, Tried them, there at the bottom of the tool box somewhere

Cheers will give them a try. Always use washing up liquid and finger - wife not to keen on sticky fingers - at least not until after sex 🙂

This works a treat Darren!!! No more dirty jumpers for me..... just finished your course (April 13) and i have to say its the best thing i've ever done. Can't thank you enough for everything i've learned! Will be back for the natural stone course soon as as i have the money together!

I've got a couple of those "rubber things" and the best one gives a mitre finish which really finishes the job off nicely.
I can use the old little finger when it's Caulk but silicones require a professional finish In my opinion.

I find the spray bottle technique is very good, I also use the orange screwfix tool when I can as it keeps silicon off my fingers. Which side of the tool do you all find gives the best finish? I have used the sides on some occasions when the customer only wants a very small silicon joint as the tool is sometimes too wide. What size silicon bead would you say it works best for?

screwfix sell the finger one also i got mine from there its orange with blue end only £2.49

The orange with blue end was screwfix code 10994 in the older catalogues. Code 10994 now shows the new silcon tool as per the previous post.
