Appreciate any help/advice. About to finished re tiling (floor/walls) bathroom which will have normal fittings including power shower. Ceramic tiles throughout and quick drying cement based adhesive used. Grout wil be Mapei Ultracolor Plus - pack says suitable for power showers). Spent quite a lot of money so far so want to finish as well as I can. I'm sure I have read that there are sealants available that you apply to finished floor/walls that will help lengthen the look/condition of the 'finished product'. I.e, I assume, help keep the grout from colouring over time. Am I right or have I read too many web pages? Thanks

Hi Quaerkrad, you can't seal ceramics as they would not take the sealer (Only Natural stone and the like require sealing)
To keep the grout good you could apply something like this

GROUT PROTECTOR 500ML

Price: £14.99
Quantity

What it’s for
Protecting all grout joints on wall and floor tiles

Advantages
Protects the grouts in ceramic tile floors and walls
Prevents the absorption of stains, particularly greasy ones
Eases the removal of dirt
Water based
Does not alter the surfaces appearance or colour

Hi Quarkrad

watch out for power showers and grout - especially if you have tanked the walls etc. I have learned from experience.

As the grout isn't waterproof (so I read) any water getting in will have to go somewhere - mine migrated to the lowest tiles and basically waterlogged them.

I had to remove the grout from those tiles and it has been over 2 weeks now letting them dry (now done). I will regrout and use my nice new tin of seal guard which hopefully will seal the grout and prevent any further problems.
