Can you recommend me a good grout, I have finally finished tiling my kitchen, (used BAL Bluestar) and will be grouting tomorrow. Really pleased with it, a hundred times better than the crap I had to rip off the wall by a so called 'professional' tiler.

Its white grout and I would like ready mixed as I'm a tiling novice.

Also the space between the worktop and the first row of tiles, do I fill this with Silicon rather than grout? Also can you recommend a good Silicon which will match the white grout.

Cheers

bal grout is a nice grout to use, and yes seal the the worktop and tile gap with Silicon..post some pics in the gallery..Mark.

Don't be put off using a powdered mix. They are really easy to mix and are more cost effective. Powder in bucket slowly add water until it just hangs off the trowel. If I can do it, believe me anyone can  I aint no expert but if you have done the tiling then mixing the grout will be childs play
sully

agree with above..
when using powder mix for the first time,
mix a small amount and grout a small area till you see how it goes off..

calvy...

Ready mixed grouts are a nightmare to use. Use the 'BAL Superflex' or at least 'BAL wall grout' (standard) to give a nice finish.

depends what tiles bal grout wasnt any good on frost-proofs size of joints cant be a factor but as advised dont use ready mixed Pete

Bal super flex wide joint 3-20 mm joint Dave missed out the wall bal wall grout :stupid:

Very true pete.. i remember.. wasn't that many years ago either....we always used additives.. hydrated formulas were never heard of...

f4 one of the old ones i used for mixing good for somthings not for others like small joints on mosaics frost proofs but only small joints but great for mixing with c2

Went to topps and got BAL Microflex, Brilliant White. The guy recommended this as my grout lines are only 2mm. Should I have got the superflex though?

Dude - hand mixing is good for making sure you have all the lumps out the mix. Bal Super Flex is good for your job!! If you've not mixed by hand before then make sure you get some throw away latex gloves. Put 3 on your right hand (if you're right handed) and add the water (clean water) using a sponge to make sure you don't add too much. Once you've got a putty-like constituency you'll know you're there. Try not to make it too runny and don't forget that too thick and you'll sweat like a bugger as you force it into the grout lines. If you've not grouted before then don't drag your grout float along the lines, it's best to drag push the grout into the line and then push it diagonally to ensure you don't pull the grout out the line, which is what happens if you follow the lines.

Hope this helps mate - good luck!
