Just started to re tile a kitchen backsplash that a family member recently had done. The guy who done the kitchen made a right mess of the tiles hence the re tiling. Anyway.. i've taken off all the old tiles and with it being a old farm house there are areas where the plaster is really bad and bits just flake off and the walls and not flat/level.

Ideally it should be re plastered but they are not prepared to have it done so anyone got any advice on how to make my life easier?

Cheers

Yes, walk away and let them realise that it has to be replastered to give the tiling job a perfect finish.
- why do they not want to replaster if they already have experienced a right mess of it?

not being funny or rude however.

you say its just been done by a tiler and its a mess......but the walls are in a state that the customer wont agree to fix and your expected to do a 2nd tiling job on a poor quality wall which u advise to be fixed? im sorry but surely 2nd time rtound they would want to do it properly. it really depends how bad the wall is you can flush it off yourself using rapidset adhesive to fill the holes as long as they are not too bad. good luck:thumbsup:

what depth does the bal stuff go to cj? someone told me 90mm is this right

No Kilty.........I think the max is about 20mm.

Why on earth would you even want to render 90mm :dizzy2:

I used it a few weeks back.................bath was removed and a shower going back........but the walls behind the bath was bare block. So I dot/dab plasterboard and then rendered over the top.........to a thickness of about 15mm. It was nice stuff to use, even with MY plastering/rendering skills

that was exactly my thoughts....i thought it sounded dubious id be as well buildin a brick wall if the render was that deep:dizzy2:

This is where bieng able to prep the walls yourself ready for tiling is a step ahead of those that cannot..

A short course in plastering will aid any tile fixer to prep his/her own wall jobs if nothing else.

You need to correct the walls to a + or - 3mm tolerance in flatness...within a 2mtr straight edge.

the tiles were put on by the kitchen fitter and since done a runner. the tiles weren't cut or set out properly. When taking them off i realized he had doubled the tiles up is this a common practice?
