Mike..

Hi,

I'm an occassional DIY tiler and about to tile my bathroom. It has been suggested to me that plastic trim is naff and I should mitre the edges of the tiles round the window reveal instead. I can do this with my diamond saw. The tiles are 45cm x 33cm.

My question is, 'Is this a sensible thing to do?' I can see that if it is done accurately enough then it will look good, but I'm not sure just how hard it will be to get that degree of accuracy. Also, are there any other pitfalls I should be aware of? Are the mitred edges very fragile? Should I still use plastic strip on the window sill edge as this is more vulnerable?

Any advice will be very much appreciated!

Mike.

Hi mike,
take a browse thru the photo section, some good examples on there. The trim comes in a variety of materials and colours and can look very good..

Mitres always look ACE,but will not resist a knock like a tiletrim will, any tiling I've done in my own houses I have mitred. For customers it's not worth the effort, unless they ask for them in which case charge royally.

I agree 🙂

dont mitre tiles , u can get metal trim in various shapes and finishes, im currently tiling a b/room and im using 12mm square edge chrome and they look boss!!!

We do have some great metal trims, nickel satin finish is my favourite, but only in 12mm so in reveals some thinner tiles might have to be bulked out to bring flush.

mitres look great if done well but **** if they are done bad or the reveal is out Lshaped chrome orks very well and will look the boll---s
go for the trim safe bet

Thanks for the replies and helpful advice. I think I'll probably go with the chrome trim as it will be easier and quicker, but maybe I'll try a mitre first to see how it goes.

Mike.
