I have the opportunity to tile this kitchen floor however the prep work will need a lot of attention and time. I have a slot to do it but it humps and slopes down and also has a hearth in as per picture.

What would be your choice of prep. Personally I woukd remove floor boards and ply over with possible planing of joists to level however this hearth poses an issue. Cement board to level? Ensure joints run down that line?

Thinking to swerve it and telk them to get lino as they dud have before. 20130620_161607.jpg

There are a few floorboards that need replacing around by the hearth. Not sure if they have much to fix to, little to no bounce on main floor

Cam I would secure what I could then level the full floor.
Any way of shaving anything off the hearth?
I wouldn't swerve it but it would need some prep work..

What kind of humps are we talking about? I tend to go back to joists most of the time so would most likely do this, level/flatten/strengthen the worst of the joists then 18mm ply then slc

Possibly. grinding cup. Hammer chisel etc.

Ive told them its all in the prep. Need to see how much they really want a tiled floor.

Chop out the hearth, it doesn't look like much, then you can carry on the joists losing the need for a break, level, strengthen, then cement board. But it's easy to say this without seeing the job properly. I wouldn't swerve it though.
