there is always someone out there who will be willing to undercut your quote. ie 'the man down the road cousins friend '. It depends on your customer, are they the kind of people who just want a cheap price and a cheap job or are they willing to pay more for quality ????

the customer said i was far too high and could get it fixed for £22 all in including the border work i think that the tiler has seriously under priced it

I feel sorry for the tiler who has taken this on at that price!!!

Think the price's vary quite a bit Davie depending on where u are in Scotland. In Falkirk it's roughly about £20m2 but some guy's are as low as £10:mad2:

It depends on what you are tiling though dosent it.

£10 a sqm might not sound much, but if it's the kind of job where you can get 3 or 4 sqm an hour down then it's not bad money is it.

If someone had already had a quote from a new tiler who's still slow, but the floors quite big, say 25 sqm, but it's just mainly laying them down with little cutting, but the newbie tilers looked at it and thought "oh my god it's big, must be 4 days work for me", then quoted a day rate of £110 a day x 4 -£440, then you come along, know it'll take you 2 days absolute max and quote £300

It all comes down to what the job is and your own speed.

Agree with you fekin but if their just cutting their throat's just to get the work it seems hardly worthwhile

I suppose it's how quiet and needy you are for the work too.

Any money is better than no money, so I can understand how many get undercut, so working for £70 a day is far better than having no work at all for them, but just not good for people like us.

Though there will always be idiots who just want to do everything and quote silly low money to get the jobs.

Yeah hear what ur all saying thought by charging by the sq m that i wouldnt be having to rush as im still new to this game so could take my time and in my head thought id be fairer but couldnt belive she had issues, anyway we'll see what comes of it.
