I must have had my stupid head on this day...

As an addition to some main contract works I agreed to lay a 2.4x2.1m2 balcony with Portland Stone. The architect said its just cosmetic, and as there is no access out there no one will be walking on it. No problem i said 😳went off did the drawings, got them approved, and ordered the stone. However dum dum me did not think this one through. The joints are to be open for the rain to run to the asphalt beneath etc etc. The stone is on average 500x500x40mm it has to be raised of the asphalt by 10-15mm, what am I going to use to lift it? has any one got any suggestions...Keep them clean please!

Cheers Pebbs

there are a few systems about..

its called suspend-ahoax_...comes in 20kg bags!...you mix the invisible frame work (transluent)and wait for the wind to pick up,then throw the tiles on top...hey presto!

shluter do the system you require, they are pads that lift the tiles off the deck and suppoert them to aloow drainage

just lay it on loose gravel its done like that on balconies all over europe as long as you are sure there will be no heavy traffic they will be fine

I quite like the idea of gravel, (as long as the balcony can take all this weight). Im going to have to think about this today, and make a decision. Thank you for all your suggestions, I'll post some photos when its all done.

Mike, I was just looking at the Schluter site in the US, and I don't see those things listed anymore. Are they available in Eurpoe I wonder?

Pebbs, could you use Schluter Troba?

Let me check Rob tomorrow Rob, I just finished going through a quote for a hotel. 235 A1 drawings! My brain is on melt down tonight.

8mm / 10mm square notch trowel serrated towards the drain off, let set, 8mm / 10mm square notched trowel at 90 degrees over the original, clear drain off routes, fix stone, drainage sorted
