here you go.. lets hear it lol...

Mr T.

I hope you gain something from the above for future reference.

In my City and guilds joinery and tiling training I haven't.

I guess most folk are ok with installing Hardibacker, this is Teabag's thread yeah?! I'm not gonna give any opinion on the quality, as enough has been said. Mr T, I'd change your goal from being a s/employed Tiler, to just gaining full-time employment, in whichever job is best for you. Perhaps have a longer-term goal to maybe do a bit more diy/amateur tiling over the next few years. But with a full-time job, you can look more into college/courses etc to do it right in 5yrs time or something... not 5 weeks. Kapeesh?? Lol
Mr T Martyn has given you sme good advice learn a bit more then try do the work

Yeh that is good advice and I am currently searching for work mate. I need emplyment for many reasons too and a bit of work wouldnt go a miss.. Im just tired of the same old jobs in these dumps on minimum wage just feel im worth more and should be doing something more challenging. I have still got people wanting me to tile for them and for the record yes its unpaid lol so that will give me some more experience I know my works not unflawed but il get there in the end and will keep posting pics on here and you guys can tell me how I can improve. If you want that is lol. Dave im staying out of this one lol. I apologise if people are seing me as something im not im not a con artist and I wont charge for my work until it is of high quality... Thats why I asked you guys the advise int the first place... I just want to do it rite. Cheers

Ash.

I would like to apologise for my misconception of your enthusiasm for the trade and i wish you well.

Under the bridge Dave just remember in my future posts that im not trying to con anyone out of there hard earned... cuz I know how hard it is to earn lol. Just lookin for the rite advice and guidence mate.

ive never seen cross bonding of plasterboard in houses....

Evening Ian..

cross bonding is more evident with T&G materials for the strength factor but has also become common practice in most boarding type materials.. be this walls or floors..

hope that helps.

ive never seen cross bonding of plasterboard in houses....

really? You've never seen plasterboard staggered in a house before?

i assume you're going to say because every house you've even been in has 2.4m ceiling height and the boards are just butted vertically. BTW horizontal laying of plasterboard on walls is stronger than vertical but that isn't done very much because vertical is much quicker. But even with a ceiling height of 2.4m... How where the ceilings done then?

Regardless thread is now way off track.

I can see it on long run if your laying the boards in landscape but never portrait...is it written now that plaster board has to be brick bond now..or advisable..i mean how many houses have huge cracks down them..im thinking if its dot and dab where contact is direct onto brick/block wall but not on metal stud...ill be honest i never knew you had to brick bond hardi...although biggest ive done is 4 sq mt on floor...will do from now on..opps !

We just had a job and one wall was huge 30sqm all the boards were staggered on that

Anyway back on topic..sorry tea-bag...is this a council house? where the walls out ?..Alistar needs to eat humble pie on the hardie....but that plumbing...got to be council work..awful ?..that should have been looked at...ok good effort...no bodies perfect but setting out and good prep is a must...and then theres getting the trim nice and tight...you aint gunner win any prizes but just practice if you can..cheap tiles but try not to practice too much on peoples houses...some peoples stds are less than others so you might get away with it but ive seen some awful DIY jobs.you tried your best..its not pro stds but if your passionate about it dont let some of the comments dishearten you...its bloody hard work !

cheers for the feedback mate... nah its private my cousin let me do this bathroom as he saw the work I done to my brothers bathroom. and I think theres a new tenant in there enjoying my bathroom! lol... well im currently in the process of doing my bathroom I have just boarded up one of the doorways and will be doing the other side tmoz and then its almost ready for the tiles once I find the money lol and cheap tiles they will be! I think more prep research and then putting it into practise will help a lot. I know some cuts are bad and trim work isn't perfect but will keep practising. this was my second attempt at tiling on my own from start to finnish so i think the passion for the work helped me achieve what i did lol. i think as time goes on i will begin to see what is spot on and as i do the standard of work will get a lot better when i get the eye for it but that's experience isn't it. i wont be taking another big job like this for a while i don't think and will spend hours setting out my bathroom this time lol. cheers mate

if its your second attempt then it wont be perfect by any means as im sure the pros weren't when they first started..i dunno...I know my tiling wasn't perfect when I started doing my own houses many moons ago..but it improved as i went along...as said good effort and just take your time.

cheers mate will do. the passion for achieving quality will be going nowhere so it can only get better... i hope lol.

personally, they're not pics I'd be putting on my portfolio or website (if I had one), but then again I probs wouldn't put my first efforts on either.

The man / woman who never made a mistake, never made anything, (apart from me):sofahide:

Looks half decent for a DIY job mate(or 2nd attempt at tiling)I've seen worse on council jobs 🙂
The only thing that bothers me is tiling behind the bath not on top,a recipe for disaster Mr T.
Oh and the staggering of boards,it is for strength as folk have said, a staggered joint is much stronger than a straight joint

yep defo no no..always tile onto bath..but is a bath going in there or a shower...I tend to tile first before putting in bath and leave the last tile up to bath out..then put bath in and finish..saves damaging bath and it being in the way when working.

.some peoples stds are less than others

😱😱😱

Yes Mr T always wear your PPE

No humble pie necessary Ian. An apology where its due, done. As for the other 99% of my post I stand by it. Yes practice makes perfect blah blah blah. Should he be "practising" at the expense of someones home and hard earned cash? Absolutely not!
Is the work done here up to an acceptable standard for a customer to pay for it. Absolutely not. Would you be happy to pay for it Ian if this was your home?? I don't think suggesting its a council property makes it better, does it?

Bare in mind if you re-read my original post I asked Mr T to take it as constructive criticism. I hope ha does, because as i also said i admire his enthusiasm. Call it firm but fair if you will. Not going to blow smoke up his (¥)

If you do a bad cut Mr T, don't be scared to throw it away/reuse it. No need to put it in. Better to be a box of tiles short when you're learning than have terrible cuts everywhere.
