Hi. I fitted 6mm hardie backer to the floor with thick quartz tiles on top of that. In the shower customer is having glass mosaics - only 8mm thick. Can I put Hardie Backer onto the shower tray (wet room type slopey thing not a ceramic tray) to bring the level up then tile that?

You should not use hardi as it is only "water resistant" as opposed to "waterproof"!.......

Whatever you do make sure is waterproof and solid bed fixed...adhesive should be oozing everywhere.....otherwise......its going to get really smelly, really quick!

The builder fitted the former flush with the chipboard before I started - we tilers often have to sort problems like this ourselves or sit at home not earning waiting for the builder/plumber/chippy to come back and get their prep right.

Don't see why you could not use a Marrmox or wedi board and tape joints. Bit of a pain though! Not something I would advise but it's a bit of a predicament! Can you lift former? Always better to do your own prep! Lesson learnt
