grouting original style tessalated tiles when unsealed - TilersForums.com

just about finished fixing an outdoor path with tessalated original style tiles.
had a marquee cover over but not keep tiles completely dry.
has anyone ever grouted these unsealed without staining.

if i get a blower on them i can get most of face dry except a faint picture frame around edge where water got in to joints.
was thinking of using universeal rapid all one and then grout but abit worried the picture frame may remain.
the tiles are never going to get bone dry now at this time of year
any help on this would be grateful.

I have tried leaving adhesive on unsealed tiles for 30mins and doesnt seem to stain

I think this is going to come down to grout and pigment to be honest Jonny.

If you're grouting with something coarse and frost proof like Ardex C2 grey it's probably not going to mark anything, but if you're using a heavy pigment coloured grout like Mapei products I'd be more careful.

yes i think youre right . trouble is to do a test i will need to grout an area and wait till it dries out and it could take forever to see if picture framing goes if use rapid all in one

Hi Jonny you can get a temporary seal, Bal do one, I used it once. If you get the tlles as dry as poss, apply the sealer, let dry, grout, when grout goes off wash sealer off with water.

Doing it that way the tiles won't stain, but you still have to get the floor dry before you can impregnate, or use a topical seal.

I would use Tile Master mid grey 3000, I use it on OS floors all the time, never use a coloured grout, hope this helps.
