a message for all those new tilers who have been struggling for work ringing plumbers kitchen bathroom companies leaving cards in shops and getting no work just be patitent and stick with it i was in the same boat i went everywhere i was pretty pee'd off with not havin alot of work got a call from a builder and he wants me to tile 100 bathrooms at a care home i couldnt believe it the phone is starting to ring

just keep at it eventually it will pay off

It takes about two to three years to start getting regular work, it wont happen overnight, i only do it part time due to other buisness commitments, but I've been tiling for 2 1/2 years, i don't advertise anymore, just do a good job and you will be head hunted. Got a call today from a kitchen fitting company, i have been recommended to tile a limestone floor 45sqm kitchen floor...Dont think they would of asked if they knew what i was doing today..:lol:

keep the faith! All you need is one break.

Last july I took the plunge and left my office based job of 18 years to tile part time . The first fews jobs I got (friends & family) I took my time and made sure I did a good job and respected the customers home.

In October I had a call off a local plumber who hated tiling and had been given my name by one of my first customers. He put a couple of jobs my way & was pleased with my work and now puts so much work my way I have gone full time. Even better, he has passed my details onto other local tradesmen ( 1 kitchen fitter & 1 conservatory contractor) and I'm now booked up 6 weeks in advance with loads of work in the pipe line. Not done any advertising yet and never had a day yet with no work.

I know its early days yet but there's plenty of work out there, its just getting to know the right people and doing a good job.

I did a tiling course back in May '07. Only did my first paying job back in February and am now starting my 6th job tomorrow. Only tiling at the w/ends and some nights during the week. Have definitely got another 3 jobs lined up.
Just spoke to a customer from day job, he heard that I have been tiling and has now asked me to quote him to tile his warehouse canteen. Things were slow to start but is rapidly getting busier. Doing the tiling course is the best thing I ever did. Still not going to give up the day job just yet though!

I'm already self employed but tiling is a new thing for me
I'm lucky in that i've learnt from my mistakes and can embark on my new career with a sound business sense
The last cpl of doors i've fitted i've mentioned my tiling and i've now got 3 jobs to price up :hurray:
