Hi All,

I have been asked to quote my first UFH job and would like some help.

Basically the customer is knocking down the wall between his kitchen and dining room to make one decent size kitchen/diner, this will be approx 20 sq metres once completed.

He has asked me to install UFH and then tile with porcelain tiles.

My questions:
1) As the floor at the moment is floor boards, do I need to lay plywood on top of the boards before laying the UFH?

If I do need to lay plywood what thickness does it need to be?

2) The customer is worried about the height of the floor after we have layed the plywood, UFH, adhesive and tiles as he does not want it being much higher than the hallway floor. Is there anything that can be done so the floor does not come up too high?

3) The room once build will be fairly square apart from the archway between the kitchen/diner. Would you selct UFH mats for cables?

4) Which UFH would you use? Devi, WarmUp, UHeat?

5) As I need to cover 20 sq metres and most suppliers do not offer this size kit can you connect two or more matts together?

Thanks
Paul

I would opt for UHeat systems and use the boards they sell if the existing floor is suitable, ie. No bounce in the floor and is in good condition.
For a better and more detailed answer call Aaron on 07887 545757

He will be able to work out the best system and talk you through using their backer boards ( which are at an incredible cheap price) and the advantages of heat saving.

Not always and backer boards could be an option, UHeats backer boards will save heat loss too.

If I do need to lay plywood what thickness does it need to be?

2) The customer is worried about the height of the floor after we have layed the plywood, UFH, adhesive and tiles as he does not want it being much higher than the hallway floor. Is there anything that can be done so the floor does not come up too high? You may be able to use 6mm backer boards/construction boards which will be suitable but i woould opt for a 10mm myself.

3) The room once build will be fairly square apart from the archway between the kitchen/diner. Would you selct UFH mats for cables? The matting system is generally easier but the cable ii feel more versatile if needing to go around obstacles. Seeing as you say teh area will be mostly square i would opt for matting.

4) Which UFH would you use? Devi, WarmUp, UHeat? UHEAT !

5) As I need to cover 20 sq metres and most suppliers do not offer this size kit can you connect two or more matts together? Yes no problem !

Thanks
Paul
