Only use Silicon if the ceiling has had its final coat of paint, otherwise paint won't stick.

I never use Silicon, only caulk so if a customer decides to change the celing colour down the line or whatever then it's not going to be a problem for them.

I went for Silicon because wasnt sure if the ceiling joists would flex (its upstairs) and the roof gets very hot in summer. (Well not this summer).

Ive used caulk before and it looked great when first done but found that overnite it shrank and the gap wasnt fully filled. never had that problem with Silicon. However it could of been something i done if other people have not had this problem..............

How big was the gap you left....i try and leave a 2mm gap and never had a problem with caulk.

You will get away with caulk in most rooms but would recommend silicon in bathrooms. The caulk attracts more mold to it than silicon. I have restored a few bathrooms where the caulk has been really bad with mold.

It was certainly no bigger than 3mm maybe just 2mm. Like i say i have only tried it once but might have another go as it would be a cheaper option than Silicon
