Standard practice for everyone should be to unplug the drill when cleaning the paddle with a brush or a sponge. Many years ago, I read a letter in one of the trade magazines that described how a guy lost his thumb while cleaning the mixing paddle with one hand while the other hand held the drill by the handle. Yes, he unconciously fingered the trigger on the drill and his thumb got caught in the egg beater of the paddle and was yanked off.:yikes:

personally i use a washing up brush and ensure i have a bucket full of water nearby, spin the mixer in the bucket of water to remove "most" of the sticky and then my trusty little brush to remove the rest!

I kind of understood that they'd unscrew the paddles first before hammering it?? I think I have to hammer mine...😳
