Hi all,

Just finished measuring up for a nice splashback to do before Xmas and the customer is looking at bevelled 10cmx20cm metro tiles in brickbond. I am trying to steer them in the direction of micro metro but if they go for the larger ones any suggestions on how to overcome too big a gap between where the bevelled edges drop when fitting sockets/switches over them....hope that you understand what I mean? also does anyone know of a supplier who does 10x10 bevelled edges so I don't end up with odd looking cuts by having to cut the bigger ones in half?

I am sure there is a simple way...but it's got me confused :santa_cheesy:

Thanks

Ed

Unless you can get your setting out so that all your cuts are in the "thick" part of the tile, then I think the gaps are unavoidable with this style of tiling. You don't say if you intend to use trim but it can look a bit iffy with bevelled tiles. I always try to set out so that any edge cuts are on the 1/4 : 3/4. Gives a better finish in my opinion.

Thanks Grumpy,

As I thought, re-the setting out. I couldn't think of another way so I guess that there isn't and I'm certainly not going to cut around the sockets. I wasn't thinking of using trim so thanks for the tip on cut sizes.

Any possibility of moving the sockets a little mate ???....I sometimes find that's the best solution .....not sure about the "liability" issue of that though ! lol

Just seen this post and although it's a bit old, I was looking for a bit of advice. I also have the metro tiles and want to cut a hole in the centre to accommodate a couple of sockets. Looking up some of the hand saws, the reviews seem pretty negative in relation to them not cutting well. The tiles are 20cm x 10cm and 0.8cm thick. Can anyone recommend decent saws or techniques? Looking to drill into tile and cut from the holes. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply. Does this increase the risk of cracking the tile. Or is this a tried and tested method ?

Is it a U shape to cut out... as in sockets fall on grout line and you need to cut around... just with sockets being around 100mm's themselves i cannot see you needing to cut a centre hole out..?
