Hi All
Where is the best place to buy quality tiles, I have looked around all the usual big names and the prices vary so much.

I want some rectangular wall and square floor ceramic tiles that are travertine effect...???

I have seen the same tile @ Tile Giant and Topps and they vary in price.......!!!!!

I live in York if that helps........

Cheers......................

when looking at the travertine, just check the quality of the stone - that is why they vary in price. The more filler you can see on the tile surface, the poorer quality of stone. I am a big Tile Giant fan, but I also use Topps a lot for tiles - go with what you like at a price you are happy paying.

when buying tiles best to stick to a tile shop rather than going to the d.i.y sheds.

all ways check the gradeing of the tile to make sure its suitable for your intended use.

if your tiling a kitchen/ hall/ or conservatory you should be looking at a grade 4/5.

porceline tiles tend to be more harder wareing but can be more expensive so it depends on your budget.

hope this helps

i would advise for porcelain tiles on the floor as they are much more hard wearing and ideal for foot traffic wheras ceramics can fade and look quite "done in" in a very short space of time on floors.

You will probably find that the porcelain trav effect have a much better look than the ceramic too, but will no doubt be mroe expensive than ceramics

The difference in price from tile outlets is probably down to how much they purchased, and what's on offer, and things like that.

Generally though, always a good idea to shop with an actual tile outlet rather than a DIY shed. And tile giant serve us well as a forum, loads of the guys have switched to using them.

I would also suggest checking the sizes of the tiles, measure a few if you can for consistentency, nothing worse than a tile being 3mm taller or longer than the next.
I am mentioning as this happened to us today, nightmare:yikes:, just aswell i was in the company of an elite member from this site to get over the problem:lol:
