They really look after me on a Wednesday afternoon - Pensioners Day!!!!!!

sorry john but i disagree there why should anyone get treated any different due to thir age, thought that was now illegal to discriminate on the grounds of age as thats exactly what they are doing so i wont shop there

you go in and spend 300 notes and get for 270, i get charged 300, its pure wrong

Get one of their trade cards and you will get the discount also, If I need materials on a Sunday or if I am working away then B&Q can be useful for sheet materials etc because they are everywhere, Travis Perkins are the only alternative if you are away and they are extortionate.

technically it's only age discrimination in an employment situation, or services associated with providing employment benefits like pensions.

so if B&Q wanted to change their discount rules and remove the special pensioners provision, they can do. not a damn thing anybody can do to stop it. you wouldn't be able to bring a claim against them unless you worked for them.

mortgage lenders are still able to refuse mortgages to people reaching retirement age, and there's no stopping other industries doing the same. Most 17 year old drivers are still discriminated against due to their age when taking out car insurance.

not saying that alby mate

tradesmen have always had discount from shops, and staff have always had perks of employment like what your wife gets

what i said was its illegall to discriminate on the grounds of age and they shouldnt be allowed to do it, if one age group can get on a wednesday then surely all age groups on the same day should be given 10% off

from gov website

3. —(1) For the purposes of these Regulations, a person ("A") discriminates against another person ("B") if—

  • (a) on grounds of B's age, A treats B less favourably than he treats or would treat other persons, or

    (b) A applies to B a provision, criterion or practice which he applies or would apply equally to persons not of the same age group as B, but—
    • (i) which puts or would put persons of the same age group as B at a particular disadvantage when compared with other persons, and

(ii) which puts B at that disadvantage,
and A cannot show the treatment or, as the case may be, provision, criterion or practice to be a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim.

(2) A comparison of B's case with that of another person under paragraph (1) must be such that the relevant circumstances in the one case are the same, or not materially different, in the other.

(3) In this regulation—

  • (a) "age group" means a group of persons defined by reference to age, whether by reference to a particular age or a range of ages; and

    (b) the reference in paragraph (1)(a) to B's age includes B's apparent age.

I used to take the same view of B&Q as the others

its there so ill use it for out of hours shopping and pick through their best materials and prices

I noticed this selective discounting

friends of mine who were in the emergancy services

teachers

social workers

oaps

pregnant women

members of various clubs and societies

and so on

there wasnt discount days it was any time

so I took my business details in and asked for discount, was sent to the managers office

He said no as builders dont spend enough with them, they are not on the list for discounts, I would have to pay full price

but if I spent enough with them they would give me 10%

I didnt bother

Mike, that's weird, because I got a trade card, I told them I was a mosaic artist with a tiling qulification, so they just matched me with the closest trade, which is tiler, they do have tilers on their discount set-up... but it's not the same, the discounts are collected for you to save up, there are no instant discounts, all so phaffy!!! They could do heaps better, but because of the sheep mentality they get away with it, like supermarkets and all those who have te money to make things convenient for the masses...with size of property and long opening hours.....

I think things have changed since then Gisela

my youngest was a baby and shes 18 now, I could have got a card then to do her nursery up but when I read the terms for proving you had just had a child I didnt bother
im not taking my daughters medical cards into B&Q to get a couple of quid off

it wasnt what they said it was the whole condescending attitude, we dont want scummy builders blocking our aisles up

ironicly when they opened their new store about a year later I recieved an invitation to their pre opening event

very nice too lots of champers and vol au vonts

and a really hard sell

I looked in dismay at their discount system and told them very politley why it was wrong

I also told them that the manager of their other branch told me that builders werent on the discount list because they dont spend enough

their attitude was that I would end up buying frrom them any way as noone else will be able to compete with them on price and service

im still waiting for that to kick in

I really don't understand B&Qs trade discount, I know they have two schemes but not sure what each do. I even asked a mate who is a B&Q manager and he couldn't tell me!
