hi, got a 8mtr asphalt kitchen floor to tile on sat/sunday, but the floor has a couple of high spots and a couple of hollow sounding areas , my plan was to take the high spots out and fill the voids with a rapid set cement, and break away the hollow areas and also fill with a rapid set cement , then prime with sbr then screed. is a latex screed ok for this type of substrate ? the customer laid the floor himself around 40 years ago i think he said ! this is my first asphalt floor.:yikes:

Sounds like the asphalt has de-laminated from the base.. I would be careful here.. Check for soundness when you break out the hollow area's.. i think a re-screed might be in order on this one..

thanks dave , i think i might take the hollow bits out and the high spots tomorow and see if it opens a can of worms or not !( il take some pitures ). to be fair the guy mentioned it was a asphalt floor otherwise i wouldnt of known ? it just lookes like concrete ?? quite scary :speechless:.... is there a way of knowing the difference or does it just come down to experience ?
