worktop

A countertop, also counter top, counter, benchtop, worktop (British English) or kitchen bench (Australian or New Zealand English), is the firm, flat, horizontal surface of a counter. They are built for work in kitchens or other food preparation areas, bathrooms or lavatories, and workrooms in general. The surface is frequently installed upon and supported by cabinets, positioned at an ergonomic height for the user and the particular task for which it is designed. A countertop may be constructed of various materials with different attributes of functionality, durability and aesthetics, and may have built-in appliances, or accessory items relative to the intended application.
In Australian and British English, the term counter is generally reserved for a surface of this type that forms a boundary between a space for public access and a space for workers to carry out service tasks. In other contexts, the term bench or benchtop is used.

    Tiling a kitchen worktop

Hi all, I am about to undergo tiling a kitchen worktop. Currently our kitchen worktop is made up of several small tiles which are messy and inconvenient. The most cost effective method of revamping the worktop was to retile over it using much larger tiles with a granite style finish. I feel...

However, would people recommend that I then use something like 6mm Hardibacker on top of that? Or is it fine to lay direct onto the ply -...

Finishing between kitchen wall tiles and worktop

How is this best done? I have seen many kitchens where the join between the worktop and the wall tiles is sealed with silicon, but this has cracked and peeled because, I suspect, of movement of the worktop. Anybody got any tips??
