spacing
Search the forum,
Sentence spacing concerns how spaces are inserted between sentences in typeset text and is a matter of typographical convention. Since the introduction of movable-type printing in Europe, various sentence spacing conventions have been used in languages with a Latin alphabet. These include a normal word space (as between the words in a sentence), a single enlarged space, and two full spaces.
Until the 20th century, publishing houses and printers in many countries used additional space between sentences. There were exceptions to this traditional spacing method—some printers used spacing between sentences that was no wider than word spacing. This was French spacing—a term synonymous with single-space sentence spacing until the late 20th century. With the introduction of the typewriter in the late 19th century, typists used two spaces between sentences to mimic the style used by traditional typesetters. While wide sentence spacing was phased out in the printing industry in the mid-20th century, the practice continued on typewriters and later on computers. Perhaps because of this, many modern sources now incorrectly claim that wide spacing was created for the typewriter. The desired or correct sentence spacing is often debated but some sources now claim an additional space is not necessary. From around 1950, single sentence spacing became standard in books, magazines, and newspapers, and the majority of style guides that use a Latin-derived alphabet as a language base now prescribe or recommend the use of a single space after the concluding punctuation of a sentence. However, some sources still state that additional spacing is correct or acceptable. Some people preferred double sentence spacing because that was how they were taught to type. The few direct studies conducted since 2002 have produced inconclusive results as to which convention is more readable.
Hi, yes I know the title sounds off Doh! lol Well to all you guys that have installed large format 600 x 600 mm tiles, what size spacers or level system do you use. Personally I want the smallest grout line possible, which I'm told is 2mm by 'Tile Mountain' for their Lounge Light Grey tiles, but...
Anyone leaving them in?
I know they can cause tension, grout color fading and can attract mold. But are these any better?
They support tension and also allows grouting over, or should they be removed?
hi
I bought 200mm by 500mm Argenta Camargue Perla ceramic tiles and Bal Grip plus tub... to find out the Bal Grip plus isn't up to the job because of the size of the the tiles. I see from other threads there is a more 'professional look' way to lay tiles, so we are not sure how to lay them...

Hi all
I have some 12mm box trim to put around window edge. when tiling around it, do I tile up to it or leave a 3mm grout gap as I have done with all the other tiles. wasn't sure as its the first time I have had to tile in and around a window.
Thanks
I bought one of these recently, for the princely sum of £1.42
Listed for iphone screens, I thought it might hold your spacer bucket, stick it to the tiles just placed.
For some reason I cannot log in to tapatalk, or I'd post some pics. It worked well. As a test I left my bucket hanging on it...
Kitchen fitter on a job I'm gonna be on Monday said to put a spacer between the first row of tiles and the wooden work top for silicone. I've never seen this before in 11 years. does any one do this? seems bit extreme, I'd usually just start off the work top and silicone at end. it's for the...
Hi all, looking for a bit of advice.
Next month I got to big floor jobs, one will be laying 750x750 tiles and the other 800x800 tiles.
What would be the best manual cutter for large format tiles.
What size spacers would you use?
And yes I will be putting a silicone expansion in both jobs so was...
Just had a look at the RLS clips and thinking about moving with the times and giving them a go. I normally use 2 mm spacers, are the 1.5 mm clips compatable with 2mm spacers or do you not need spacers with the clips also are the pliers needed. I know this is a topic that is well covered on here...

In the process of tiling my kitchen walls between below my kitchen units and the worktop. I was going to start tiling with the tile resting on the worktop and working up to the unit. However, a chap and keen DIYer told me to sit the tile on a 2mm spacers to allow the bead of silicone to seal...

A recent thread and a couple of members made me question the way I've been using tile trim recently and I wondered which way the forum guys and gals do it.
I've always butted the tile trim up to the tile WITHOUT a spacer, on both an external corner, and when tiles finish half way up a wall...
Are tile spacer sizes actual or nominal? Bought what I thought was 1.5mm and 2mm and it seems as if they are 1.1mm and 1.8mm.
Am trying to layout 300mm x 100mm metro tiles horizontally in shower cubicle from tray to ceiling (23 rows) and want to avoid an awkwardly-sized top row where they meet...
We are having a constant battle with learners and employers of apprentices regarding leaving tile spacers in the joint. This is something I have never done on any job ( that I can remember:rolleyes5:). There are loads of YouTube vids and many pieces of literature that show the spacer in the...

Hi all,
I'm tiling the bathroom floor this weekend using wood effect tiles (xilema wenge). They are long and thin and all online images show a narrow grout line.
The floor is bounce free Chipboard overlaid with 6mm insulation board fixed with S2 adhesive and then has UHF covered in a thin slc...
