Tiling kitchen splash back - re plaster or tile over?.

Hi, new to tiling and just have a quick question. I am tiling a kitchen splash back. The splash back currently has tiles and was wonder should these be removed or can you tile over them? If removed do you need to re plaster or use a membrane maybe?

Always remove. If it damages the walls repair 👍

Perfect thank you, would it need to be re-plastered or could some sort of backing bored be ok or even just tile over it if possible?

See what damage happens first , if minimal then you can patch in and if it wrecks it , then re-plasterboard.
