just wundering if any1 can help im regrouting my uncles floor 2morro he had grouted it but the grout has came out every time they sweep the floor the grout comes out it turns 2 sand! can any1 tell me why this happins so i can avoid it! thank you x

He may of actually used sand instead of grout 🙂

No idea really, but it sounds like the grout he used is dodgy. Best to scrape it all out - long job ( would be anidea to use a fein type multi tool to remove it.
Re-grout with a good flexi grout to be safe. Clean off with a washboy & handled sponge - better result than using a small sponge.

he said if woz defo grout what he used and i dunt have much 2 take out most of it is out you just rub ur finger on it n it comes out! weve got the new grout he picked black :'( lol

Sounds like the water : grout ratio is to weak. Made it to sloppy.

Use a flexi grout to be safe.

What ever you do, do not use PCI grout. I have just had a bad exeprience with it....

Funnily enough - I will not use Granfix grey floor grout - have had bad problems with it being patchy & a begger to use. Also Ultra white wall grout - always looks mucky.

Sounds to me like it wasn't stiff-ish when it was applied. Leanne, use a wide-joint grout and if it's in the budget, a flexible one. Do it the way Darren showed you and you'll be laughing 🙂

aye well done the bathroom 2day the way Darren told me n its perfect lol neva used black b4 so il just take my time and hope for the best lol x

oh my head hurts lol a didnt relise there was so many Can you buy Bal in the shops or just suppliers? ill try it when i do my kitchen! i am just used using palace what i used 2 use with Darren it was good like didnt need a battern or nethin! x

Tip - rubber gloves are a good idea when using black - it's a begger to get off your hands

Palace should do a flexible floor grout. It's pretty standard stuff like. Just work in small areas with it. It can start to set on the tiles quicker than a standard floor grout due to the polymers that are in it.

Black grout just takes a lot longer to clean off leanne, go over it a few times with your washboy and then leave it to cure a while, then go back over it. If not you just end up spreading it everywhere and pulling it back out the joints.

could be movement in floor. tiles going up and down rubbing grout out. ie turning it into sand. if its a wooden floor that is not solid then your problem lies in the substrate not being secure enough. just giving another alternative. hello everyone names jaimie and new to the forum.

he already has the grout if the floor is a wooden can i buy something to add to make it a flexigrout?

Hiya Jamie,

I don't agree, if there's movement, you'd find grut cracking, maybe tiles even, as the adhesive is breaking up. That would mean the adhesive and the grout is wrong. Seems t me like the grout brushes out, if it's cracked and coming away it would come away in lines, but stuck together still, maybe even ith bits of tile stuck to it as it's got to be sticking to something somewhere. If it's brushing out, and the tiles are still sound, he couldhave used an adhesive for grout, as that's not a wearing surface, or grout has been applied like water, which would usually be pinted out by low grout joints that are discoloured even after you've washed up and cleaned off.

Thank's for joining in though 😀 I can see where you're coming from. Maybe just in case, you should 'sound' the tiles Leanne to make sure they're all fixed. maybe get some of the grout that's coming out and check that?

he hasnt had any problem with the tiles just the grout! i will double check the morra oh! but what do you mean by check the grout thats coming out?

Could be the sand faries - they sometimes come out at night and sprinkle magic dust on the grout that makes it turn into sand !!! 🙂

Only joking - Leanne - If you are going to do the job, tell him that you will get the grout and he will give you the money - you need a good flexible grout. Sure the guys on this forum will recommend one. I only use Mapei , but am aware of others. What can you buy in your area.
Shouldn't be necessary to have to buy additive to make flexi.
Nick

Hi Leanne - I say again , if it isn't a good flexi grout, tell him you want to get your own - you as a Tiler need to start and stand your ground with the products you use. Poor results only reflect badly upon the person ( possibly you in this case ) who has done them.
I guess that your uncle is not paying you much for this job ? The least he can do is provide you with some decent grout 🙂
No offence meant, just good solid advice.

sounding the tiles is a option. knock along the tile, if it gives a hollow sound compared to a deading sound then maybe tiles are not fixed enough. but then this is only to determine if tiles are fixed good. and not how the substrate or grout is behaving. this is just my view and i have not been tiling as long as the pros on here. i think its best to consider all options then decide.

leanne tell your uncle to go to c.t.d its next to stadium of light in sunderland it stocks black flexi grout
