Hi lads & lasses...

After the initial slump in work some members suffered after xmas how are you all finding work now.?..has it picked up or are you still quiet..?.....

Thanks in advance for replies......

i have not been idle but the work after christmas was flooding in then i had a few weeks of dribs and drabs but things have picked up a bit thanks to my big m8 REAPER72.

It was a slow start but i rang everyone i knew and took all work on to keep me busy. I have been working pretty much solid and done more weekends this year than i did all last year. I guess i am pretty lucky to have lots of contacts which i can help out when is needed.
Its still not great out there, most people i chat too are finding it tough going. Thats not just tilers but plumbers too :whatchutalkingabout.

I havent stopped since xmas.always been well booked up in advance.

I,m busy as well..but as SR says i too have heard off other trades they are quiet. It does seem though that it is more the sites that are being affected.. i know that plunketts , a big tiling contractor up this way have laid off quite a few fixers...so sites must be feeling the pinch with house sales dropping..........wot do you lot think..?...

its still dead in west Yorkshire
ive never known it this quiet at this time of year

giza job

The same cant be said up here in edinburgh.Still to talk to a tradesman that isnt busy.i have even been putting in high quotes to try and put people off because of my work load but still end up getting the job.

Sites down here are slow, i know of a few builders and they say houses arent selling. I am getting contract work tiling offices and factory units but they arent that good money.

Al the tile shops are quiet, builders merchants and big insulation companies are quiet.

i spoke to one housebuilder who said they had to let go of 13 people in the office but this could also of been because of a recent merger. One site in Castleford has fired a load of people as house arent selling!

However things are slowly getting back on track. Plus its a new tax year soon and people should have more money to spend.

I was alright after Christmas but lately I'm constantly busy and you finish work,go to a quote then go home to work out other quotes, its a long day but I'm not complaining.

I know alot of builders and plasterers that are still quiet, houses aren't selling in the east midlands either.

ive been really busy since xmas, just starting to starting to slow up got 2 more weeks of jobs booked in hopefully get some more work in before finish them, ive spoke to plasterers and plumbers that have just had dribs and drabs since xmas they say its the worst it has been in ten years some having to do site work for first time in years...

it has gone completley mad now for me now im working on site im working tommorow aswell its not to bad if you have to contacts im keepin fingers crossed it keeps up

live in south yorkshire not much doing at all my mates are mostly plasterers
anddont have much work i think the housing game is about done . quietest ive been for about 10 yrs

Just signed up to this site but have been reading for a while so hello to everyone!

Recently re-located from Herts to Lincolnshire and am seriously struggling to pick any new work up! Perhaps a bad time to re-locate but when it was planned last year there didnt seem to any shortage of work!

hello and welcome...........it really depends upon your area , some seem to be busy in the domestic side of things then others on the commercial side seem not to be.......so keep it touch with this thread and it should give you some idea what the market is like at the moment........

Cheers Dave - lots of good pointers on here and helps me stay sane while the other half is at work!

Im quiet for next week then got 2 weeks work then quiet again, not had a phone call to do quotes for about 3 weeks now :whatchutalkingabout

been busy with commercial work since christmas, no domestic work at all until last couple of week kitchen floors and splash backs have started coming through my yellow pages add. should start picking up now.

I've, fortunately, been flat out this year and have the next 5 weeks covered (all domestic). Stuck a kitchen floor today and have to grout it tomorrow morning, 'cos the punter wanted it done rapid and this weekend was all I could spare.

Got to quote for 40m2 of Marble floor this weekend (got the lead via trustedtradesmen, so thanks Dave!).

I'm knackered!!

Been a nightmare on my body last month or so just havnt stopped, up this early on a Sunday cause i have a bathroom to finish (although i am an hour late, bloody clocks!).

Think because of the xmas slump a lot of tilers packed it in because it seems every builder i speak to "cant get hold of a tiler".
Going to be working 7 days next week aswell, pass the deep heat 🙂

I was quiet following Xmas and ticked over until a couple of weeks ago. Now it's starting to go a bit mad again.

Hopefully I can start planning ahead soon to take someone on to help out on a casual basis soon.

Looking good so far....!

Well Dave, here in north Germany lots of tilers work during winter and early spring in flats and hotels in seaside towns of the north sea and baltic sea coast, because of 2 things...
1. During this time the flats/hotel rooms are free for renovations and modernisation,
2. From late spring to early autumn those towns don´t allow loud works due to their reputation as a health resort & quiet area.

Is it same so in UK? Regards, Martin:8:
