protilers

i use a mixture of tanking products...

1. mira fibreglass mat (1mtr wide 1mm thick)
2. mira fibreglass tape (100mm wide 1mm thick)
3. mapei gum (fleable paint on tanking)

i find that in this case the mapei mesh is not as good as the mira but mapei gum is far better than miras tanking paint....

remenber guys when you tank a room it must be of solid construction..
wedi trays are the best but must be secure,
also always fibreglass the floor first ensuring to come at least 150mm up the walls.... then you apply your corner tape over the floor fold,
take care and perticular attention to pigeon holes, ledges etc.
if you would like to see a photographic reconstruction of a wetroom visit my website www.protilers.com and click on projects then goto Denbigh Gdns 2.
i think this will illustrate the point perfectly.......

however this is the way our company does this without failure (100+ wetrooms)
it does not mean that there are not different ways of doing it....its just tried and tested...... good luck!
----
oh i forgot to mention.....all of the products i listed are available from trimline (and many more) plus for a nominal fee they will deliver them to site thier number is
0208778 9000

Hi I saw your wet room diary and it was a diiferent story from other threads I have seen on tanking. You say the room has to a rigid structure. Does that mean you only do wet room with concrete as a base. I noticed that you also use self leveling compound over the underfloor heating which makes good sense. What do you do when you have a traditional timber floor with floorboards?

You can construct wetrooms on timber and concrete substrates.....
all i was saying is it needs to be well fixed...

as for the leveling compound over the wire....only way to go..even heat distribution,no pulling on the wire when you need to lift a tile when tiling.....good eh!

p.s that wetroom is on a timber floor over floorboards!

davco k10 plus
fiberglass 300mm matting

see thats it, alot of tanking systems have that fibreglass kit with it, PCI has rubber matting that cannot be penetrated, not only does it have the rubber matting BUT it has 2 4x4inch square rubber mats with circles cut into it that you stretch around the pipes for the hot cold shower taps for a tight seal, you dont get that with WP1, the rubber paste you paint on the wall with wp1 is too thick and bumpy, the PCI in contrast is like painting walls with normal paint, it is fool proof.
I would prefer to have rubber matting going along my joints than a fibreglass matting

i am doing a job at the moment and the customer got a SPECIALIST in to do the tanking it did make me laugh i have been using tankinging products for years and use pci or a company called ALFIX which is danish .the SPECIALIST charged £1000 which the stupid customer happily paid this specialist didnt tape round the perimeter of the room{wall to floor joint} but to be fair did make a very neat job of what he did do i am thinking of giving up tiling and becoming a tanking specialist as the money starts at £1000 per day lol

i hope you at least put your price up.. he has obviously more money than sense, and for £1000 i would take my time and make a pretty job too
