we gave a quotation today for a swimming pool 128 M2 in black glass to have Black grout, i was just thinking most Addy i use is white on mosaic, with white/grout, and of coarse gray Addy for gray/grout, now would it be a good idear to dye the white Addy black with mortar dye to eliminate any chance of squeeze out showing up in the black grout later i would value you input on this guys :hurray:

How dense is the black colour in the glass Dave?

Would you not get away with grey sticky, like Keraquick/latexplus, etc..?

The other option I can think of is BAL Fastflex which dries almost black...

I would have a word with the tech guys at mapei.im sure they could advise on colourants.

Just read your post properly mate:mad2:

I had read at it being the colour showing through the glass as your problem....

I used a Porcelanosa 2 part addy last week which dried proper black - but I'm convinced it was Fastflex....

No, it wouldn't contaminate the addy, Doug, mosaic artists like Sonia King use dyed black cement adhesive all the time, (she likes it to show through between smalti and then not grout)...you can get acrylic powder dyes suitable for all cement based products. The trick is to get the mix even, but apart from that all good

yes thank's for your imput guy's, and MG great post by the way!! and i will deffo run it by the Tec guys tomoz, it make's you think about all the diffrent colours in the grout world the Addy should match them :yikes: may-be-Not more stuff to think about!!!:yikes:

It would take quite a bit to dye 20 kg of adhesive..

Can you not just use the correct trowel and eliminate adhesive break through... ?

ill do that as a matter of course DAVE and i'll stripp out any as i go with a nail as i do anyway, it's just an idear, and i wanted to see if there were any other idears:thumbsup:

Could you not give the walls a tight skim of adhesive and leave to set, so when fixing theres no chance of the background bleeding thru

I would go with that, but it can be a balance between getting solid bed, and adhesive not coming through joints. The nail is one of my tricks Gooner:thumbsup: All above, show great minds think alike:hurray:

when north greewich tube station was tiled in 1997 black adhesive was used with black grout, it was all paper faced mosiac pregrouted, if you pm me i will tell you who manufactured it

i use a brush dipped in water to get rid of excess addy in mosaics has to be a fairly stiff one though

Where do you get them from Gisella??

There are more, but the link below is a good place to start. I know it says grout, but it is suitable for all cement based products and a very well liked brand amongst mosaic artist.

A guide to the Dyegrout colors

If you google cement or mortar colourant you come across various sites that deal with or mention liquid colourant, added after the water, or the powder colourant option, added before. Adding colourant when dry is a lot easier to check for uniformity I would guess, (I have used powder, but never liquid, though I have used acrylic paint successfully, but dealing with such large amounts all at once I suppose it would be personal preference?

Black is a common choice though, so should be easy to get. 50 gr of powder dye is enough for 2.5kg addy or grout mix. Hope this helps?

I would LOVE a swimming pool, I really really would....one of those endless pools even, where you swim and swim against stream, a bit like a hamster in a wheel, but yes, would love it... sorry I digress..
