What fixings to use? Raw plugs?

Tilers Forums Official Sponsors

The plug should be tight in the hole, not spinning, use a smaller bit and use plugs that have a lip on the edge to stop them pushing past the tile.

Bri, I always tell sparks/plumbers to push the rawl plug past the tile & into the substrate

There is no give in a tile & if they over tighten the screw then it will crack the tile, especially ceramics.

I've seen a lot & sorted a lot of these problems round about shower screens etc..

Fischer do 8mm collared expandable plugs. Available at most diy stores.
Grey in colour, about 40mm. The collar will stop it going through the hole, when you tighten the screw it will expand and pull up behind th3 board. Just don't over righten the screw.
Infact righten by hand, don't be tempted to use a drill.

here are the best plasterboard fixings I have ever come across......the "red" packet ones:

The ones on page 21 are the ones I was referring to,

Hollow wall anchors with the setting tool.

Best fixings I have found..

The 8mm drills are for the 7mm brown rawl plugs

And the 6mm drills are for the red plugs (5.5mm)

The dimaond cores come in mixed packs of four (2 x 6mm and 2 x 8mm)

And the brown plugs are for load bearing items like mirrors, cupboards, shower screens and doors plus wall mounted rads.

The red plugs are for lighter items like loo roll holders, tooth brush holders, hooks etc. And some fittings.
