I got a call about that in November..... Not much chance of me being scammed, as I say no to everything, unless I initiate it in the first place!

This has been reported on pretty much all our forums.

Never give in to cold callers of any type!

Be careful with these though as it is business-to-business you only need to agree it on the phone (or them to claim that you agreed to it) and they can take you to court for the money, often thousands of pounds.


They tried it on me once years ago, I never agreed anything on the phone, they started proceedings via the courts. I wrote a strong letter to the court and they squashed it. I assume the courts are well aware of what the scammers are doing.

Sounds similar to a scam I fell for a few months ago, it cost me a hundred quid and all I got was a few posters with my business on and I was expected to go round handing them out.

The TTA will contact members and let them know about any promotions, if you have not been sent an email from the TTA then it is not authorised, so do not take anyone up on offers etc.

If in doubt as a TTA member then please email the TTA direct [email protected]

PS. We have names of the directors of the companies - one based in Liverpool. The details can be found on the electriciansforums.co.uk website. Run a search for the company or magazine name they claim to be and you will find many threads on the subject.

The company I paid is called eml based in old hall st Liverpool. It's probably just a mailing address

The sparky's did A LOT of investigating, they found the owner of the company and where he lived. I think via companies house but it could have been via some other method. They were pee'd off that somebody was trying to rip them off.

If anybody has been ripped off, either agreed and not paid, or agreed and paid, then give us a shout and we might be able to help.

whenever one of those people call we say that the person their looking for isnt home from the station yet , theyre still on duty until 10. most of them dont ring back if they think youve got a guard in the house. any of those calles from legit companies (sky phine etc) just say thank you for calling i was thinking of cancelling your service .they wont ring for 6 months

I got caught too some sort of advertisement scam in a drug awareness in schools publication ,silly me! I wont get done again hopefully

Got caught for £110 a couple of years ago for something similar Gary, police publication or something similar.

Similar to Bri but a couple of years ago, did'nt entertain it..
