Hi,

I just aquired some porcelain floor tiles and on the box it says they are unglazed and modular. Does unglazed mean they will need sealing before/after laying and what does the modular mean?

Cheers

Put a drop of water on the tile and see if it soaks in, seal..

Modular, do have a selection of different sizes to make a pattern

Hi,

the tiles seem to be solid porcelain (ie. colour same all the way thru) with a matt riven type finish. They are light cream colour 300 x 600. Now the bad news! I think they come from Homebase!

Even if they are matt in finish then they will not necessary need sealing, normally it is polished or dust pressed or smooth through bodied.. and all are not porous as in they will soak up water ,some will darken slightly wet wetted.. As mentioned above, apply droplet of water and leave for 10 mins, then wipe off if a dark circle area is left then a coat of sealer will help maintenance of the tile..

Hi Whitebeam,
no I don't have different sizes they are all 300 x 600 but maybe other sizes are available?

Cheers

No probs mate, when i eventualy had the sense to read the box it said only seal if using black or green grout,GREEN GROUT, aynway builder has used grey grout with these tiles before. with no probs
