Hi,
Help needed please.

We have just had a kitchen extension built. It is going to be tiled. My question is - is it advisable to get the wall plastered before we tile it or is it better just to tile striaght onto the plasterboard?

If it's better to get the wall plastered, how long do you have to leave the plaster before you can tile?

Many thanks to anyone who can help. Regards, kje.

plasterboard will take more Weight in tile's than skim coat plaster if it is an issue

You can tile straight onto plasterboard yes.. but will this hinder a good finish to areas that need skimming..?

Hi again ,

Thanks to everyone for your advice - it seems that there is no need to plaster - which will save a few pennies.

However my builder (who will be paid to do the plastering) insists that we will regret not plastering 'cos he says that if we want to take the tiles off in the future (which is highly unlikely) the plasterboard will be ruined and will need to be redone.

Has anyone any thoughts on this point of view?

Regards, kje.
