Hi, I have a concrete kitchen floor job that has porcelain tiles with ufh that doesn't work so I have been asked to re-tile and fit new ufh . I'm not sure if the previous tiler used insulation boards under the ufh. My question is would it be ok if I had the height under the kitchen units to fit the new ufh on top of the existing tiles not using insulation boards self level over then tile? trying to save time and cost of taking the whole floor up. Tiles going down are ceramic. Thanks!

No, I would never fit new UFH over existing tiles (or even tile on tile for that matter). If the old UFH doesn't work then my money is on the tiles not fixed properly also!
Explain in detail to the customer why and take it all up. It's the only way I'm afraid

Did the UFH ever work?
Could it be the fuse?
It can be repaired by rejoining the break in the wire. However, finding the break is the problem. I believe there are companies out there that locate the breaks with specialised equipment.

You could do your own resistance test (if you have a ohms meter).

Tiling on tile is not good practice.

UFH can be repaired, I'm under the impression that they can pin point fault too.
This repair was actually carried out by a Warmup technician.

Underfloor heating in a shower? Is that common practice ?
I was always under the impression it shouldn't be used in wet areas.
