Tile Giant Jakarta Opinions

Greetings all

After much looking we've settled on the Jakarta porcelain tiles from Tile Giant for our en-suite re-fit. Thinking about putting the 30x30 matt finish on the floor and 30x60 polished on the walls.

Anybody have anything good or bad to say about these tiles? They seem pretty reasonable value at around £25/m

Look ok to me and have the matt finish on the floor will help in the slip factor.. just depends if you want that matching look..?

I'm fixing the 60 x 30 polished to a bathroom walls in a couple of weeks so I'll fire some pics up when done.
Just remember that it is recommended to seal these tiles, so be careful when marking out cuts and ensure that you seal prior to grouting to avoid any staining.

I looked at these for my bathrooms and the quality seems good.

Jakarta is a good range. It is worth noting that the matt finnished tile will also need sealed for this range as grime etc adheres very well to the surface of this tile.

Thanks for the comments. The chap in TG did say they needed sealing.

I was thinking of the matt for the floor to avoid slipping with wet feet. We were trying to achieve the all over look as it's quite a small room (2m square). Are polished tiles a complete no-no? TG said don't use polished tiles on the floor, but at two other tile stores we visited said it was OK....

Hi Kevin,
Polished porcelain tiles are more than adequate for floor and walls, just as long as you are aware that there is an added slip factor. This can be prevented by using a mat/rug or drying yourself off in the shower/bath. We are now being advised to seal matt finished porcelains prior to grouting. This is to help prevent against grout residue and grime sticking to the tiles. Be careful when cleaning any sealed tiles as bleach and other household cleaners, such as flash, do strip the seal away. There are maintanence products available, such as L.T.P's 'waxwash' and 'stonewash', but to check if your tiles do need resealing just perform a quick watermark test. If there is still a water mark left after 10-15 minutes with a porcelain tile, it will need a new seal as the tile is absorbing liquids and could potentially become discoloured.
