I still got one in my garage.

Never used.............

Never knew wot it was for or where the hell it came from :mad2:

No ones mentioned the old fashoined but still the best "WATER LEVEL"

Who needs a laser level when 5 bucks of clear platic tubing will be more accurate. Still use mine only thing I'd use on a pool.

Wet bedding still do it, sawdust on the floor still do it, custom mix my own grouts still do it. The old ways are far from dead they just get better with time.

All this nostalgia is making me well up. Getting de bagged and tied bollock naked to the scaffolding or getting dunked head first in to a bosh of ice cold water. It makes me sad that those days have gone as I cannot get my revenge on the young shi*s
But back to old methods have you ever tried blanket washing? This is were you get a blanket and soak it in water then ring it out and lay it flat on the just grouted floor as you pull the blanket back the grout is cleaned of the face of the tile and the joints are nice and flat but you need at least two of you to make a good job of it. You can wash of 6ft square in about three minuets flat using this method.

Was it Hawkins Quarry tiles that were made as a pair? So when they arrived you had to split the apart with a big flat screwdriver...those were piggin sharp:furious3:
The days when a mixer was either powered by diesel and used to mix sand and cement screed or a mixer was a piece of steel conduit used to mix CTF with .
The days when Hard hats were best used to carry nails across site.
The days when you had to go to the timber yard to get 20p bags of sawdust.
The days when all floors were level........cos you had to screed them.
The days when you piled into the back of a J4 Commer van and fought over a bucket to sit on for the journey home.
Yes happy days
i think those tiles you are talking about were shaws twin tiles came as a pair tap with a trowel and they came apart

was doing blanket washing only 5 years ago. used it to get epoxy off tiles in factories. washed with scrubbing pad first then blanket soaked in warm clean water. them jobs were a learning curve

You are spot on my water level is one of the best tools in my kit. For any one buying a laser level have a look at a water level first can the laser level go into two or three different rooms I don’t think so.

Back in the day, tiles absorbed the moisture and the adhesive fused into the body.....vitrification put paid to that....lol
Yes but what did the old boy’s considering a sufficient amount of additive. There is a particular phrase they used all the time

I used to buy 5 litre tubs of polymer for £5 from Tile City, it lasted ages & went into everything.....lol

Ah yes the old days, how i long for those pinhole burns on all my fingers
and those aching knees for want of proper kneepads, that constantly runny nose from cold draughty job locations, that aching back from hauling 50kg bags of cement across muddy sites, the soaking of tiles in barrels of water
and then removing them with frostbitten fingers. If i could turn back time
i'd give it a miss:furious3:

The best way to get rid of pin holes in your fingertips is to pee on them or so I was told. I never did it I swear.

To All newbies, Dont be jelous we dont have a clue what the older guy's like pj and sir ramic are talking about, 20 yrs from now we can talk about how we used to have to use spirit levels and grout floats,

There where none of your self leveling systems back then, it was all done by eye.

Cant wait:grin:

Great stories guy's i can tell we really do have a wealth of knowlage on here:thumbsup:

That will be the time when the tiles jump to the walls by themselves and to the places following a 3-D-picture of the complete work shown by a beamer on site. I should go for inventing anti-gravity addy
