Terracotta on wooden floors

hi all, many thanks in advance for advice.

I have a job to tile Terracotta tiles to a kitchen floor, and this being my first Terracotta job, I have found much invaluable advice on sealers for the job in this forum. My query is this ; What mm depth of ply would you recommend to lay upon floor boards. Would 9mm suffice ? My concern is not to have a trip hazard, being that these tiles have natural fluctuations in depth..and concern of course , that I provide enough stability. These tiles are an unknown quantity to me, and are pretty much give and take , the only material I've yet to work with . Would appreciate any advice.

Regards

You really need 18mm ply but why not use Marmox boarding?
It's a fair superior product to ply, and its a great surface to tile too.
I'd use a least 12.5mm stuck with adhesive and screwed down.
The trip hazard isn't your fault, the customer wants terracotta on a wood floor and it has to be fixed correctly. Do you know good cabinet maker or carpenter that can make some hardwood threshold strips for you? These will look really nice against this type of floor.

15mm is the BS standard for receiving floor tiling but consider a uncoupling membrane as well to eliminated cracking of a natural product.
20 years ago I had 'experienced' tilers working for me and even after training them they still managed to make a complete mess of terracotta - not on my work but when they sold their services as stone specialists!!!!
Take care if you are inexperienced, it's not professional to make the customer pay twice.
