I prefer a batten when doing a full room, only time I cut in 1st is if I'm just doing above a bath or a shower enclosure.

I generally tile the floor first then tile up from that.

I only ever tile the floor first if I need grout lines to run. Saves trying to clean adhesive of the floor tiles when doing walls

batten then tile then do floor and put your bottom row in last so it sits on top of the floor tile

Same as above however some of my customers, if using the same size tile have opted for a 'skirting board' tile the same as floor for 'that' cut below Batten.

Just finished doing a granite skirting y'day. No wall tiles though

Batterns for me. Though I still get the odd customer say "oh I didn't realise we were having that around the room?" or "oh we wanted the tiles to go from floor to ceiling?"
