Just been reading a thread about getting grout lines to meet (can't post a link yet, newbie rules) and I wondered what the general opinion is for where to start a tiling job.

I fully understand the concept of setting out for nice cuts/bond etc but would like to know where the pros think is the best place to start.

So, once you have worked out your gauge/best cuts etc do you prefer to start say one course up from the floor on a batten and cut the lowest course in last or do you prefer to start cutting the bottom course in first to a suitable level line and carry on up from there?

Bottom row first, i never got on with batten stands, and i also find cut and fix first row quicker for me.

Batterns for me. Though I still get the odd customer say "oh I didn't realise we were having that around the room?" or "oh we wanted the tiles to go from floor to ceiling?"
