Hi,

I need a lot of self levelling compound to cover my Klima underfloor heating mats the area is roughly 50m2.

What is the best stuff to use and how much would I need ? Ive read that a 20kg bag roughly 5mm thick to cover matting roughly does about 2m2 but not sure as ive never put underfloorheating down.

So this would be about 25 bags....not cheap . I live in Ashton near Oldham and wondered where the best place to get it would be.

There are loads on the market, but use one with fibers in, they will help with any flex/deflection etc, if you can use the same manufacturer for the adhesive for tiling as well

tried to message you, won't let me,i will post it here :-

if you give this chap a ring,he will give you a price and deliver it as well,he is near me in burnley, not far from you mate. he also supplys tiles,he passes jobs to me when he gets the fitting as well

Nowadays I use Weber Floor Flex, its flexible, fibre reinforced, mixes and pours well and cheap at CTD. I prefer it to my previous SLC choice which was Mapei Latex Plan Trade. I've seen a new one at CTD which is Mapei Eco somethingorother. Not used it yet but its on offer so will be giving it a go sometime.

There are literally dozens on the market. You need one that has flexibility to allow for thermal expansion and contraction and you need one that can be easily levelled (some are more fluid than others) but as for which one is "best" .... That is an impossible question to answer. I personally would go with a gypsum based one in order to exploit the thermal conductivity characteristics of gypsum which are generally better than cement. That said at the sort of depths you are working it probably makes little difference. Go with a well known manufacturer eg weber, ardex, ultra etc and avoid b and q and home base type shed own brands as they tend to be relatively poor quality. You should be blue to get a decent quality parody put for the purpose for ten to fifteen quid a bag though.
