Juat been and bought a load of self levelling compound and it says on the bag do not mix any more than you can use in 15 minutes. I have never used self levelling before - often no need on anhydrite.

It is going on sand cement screed and it will be primed with acryilic spray on primer.

Being a novice at self levelling (I am quite brave enough to have a go) I am not sure how much i will be able to use in 15 minutes. Too much and I waste it. Too little and I spend all day mixing.

The stuff is in 12.5 kg bags. How much do you guys reckon a novice self leveller can get through in 15 minutes. I will be laying it between 3mm and 6mm (ish).

id say mix no more than two 20kg bags at a time m8 if your new two it and use masking tape around the wall /floor intersection or be very carefull with you trowel at edges, nothing worse than compo sloshed up the walls omop

Is this for the outside job..?

Yep. Not exactly outside but is a fully covered passageway - we call it the cloister at home. I was thinking mix 1x12.5kg bag and lay it then clean out the bucket etc and then do a second.

Will it be open to the elements i'e. freeze thaw..?..if so you need to make sure the SLC is compatible for this use..quite a few are not.

Thanks for the advice Dave. The job will not be open to the elements as such. As I said it is a covered passageway. Don't think it has ever enen caught a frost in there although it does get chilly. I dont think the SLC will lose key on the substrate either cos it is as rough as a badgers behind so to speak. There are pits and craters in it that you could lose a small child down so it should have plenty to grab hold of.

The primer is supposed to be ok for indoor and outdoor use. It says frost proof on the tub anyway. Its by BASF acquired from work.

I going to be putting 15mm thick 150mmx150mm quarries on it. (was going to be stone but I beat the Mrs on that particular argument - price won it.)

Will post some if it goes ok. If not I'll post some in a thread which I shall call ".....and this is why you should use a professional tiler"

Thanks for the advice guys. :hurray:
