All the actors came up to Aberdeen to practice method acting for the film Bird Box, they went out window shopping every afternoon in winter

Could have been out of a mill of sorts and was for measuring cloth on a roll?

end of a roll of material / cloth and the scale in meters and feet gave a indication of how much was on the roll
