Porcelain and ditra

Good evening. Quick question if I may. I know it's probably been spoken about on many occasions on the forum so I apologise in advance. Went to a job the other day 30m2 of the parquet style tiles from porcelonosa. The existing flooring is being removed back to the original screed which I believe is a sand and cement screed. The house is very old. My question is is if the screed is good with no cracks would you recommend tiling straight to the screed or would you want to put ditra down as well for extra piece of mind. I know for natural stone it's a must but some views differ with other tiles.

Thanks in advance.

The property is at least prior 1950's or so. At the moment the screed has oak flooring and parquet flooring plus old tiles laid over it which will all be being ripped up.

The chances of any movement on the screed after that length of time will be pretty slim, I would want to check to see if there are any hollow areas before making any assumptions after the existing floor has been taken up.

If there any cracks these would have happened years ago, I have tiled directly to old screed floor and it's been sound.

Cheers whitebeam for your quick response. So even if there were cracks due to the age would you discount ditra to cover the cracks and go straight onto the floor.

I have done but know screeds very well as they were a large part of my working life, mind you I put a large number of ceramics on old screeds and they have survived that was before Porcelain became the new hot topic.
