Hi

I have a bath with two old uneven walls . The owner has had problems with previously sealing around the bath , including the ceiling below bulging and nearly collapsing .

He has bought me the large flexible ( moving ) bead that seals the bath ( gemini I think ) . It moves as possibly the bath moves too on the floorboards.

As I am tanking the the wall above anywya for the shower , I was wondering for an extra seal if I could tank around the bath before the bead went on? The bead would cover any visible tanking .

Thanks guys

Hi Dave, I have never been a fan of these things. A bit DIY imo, can you not cure the movement in the bath?

Brace the bath properly to eliminate the movement. You can cut props to go under the corners of the bath.

If the bath is in properly it should sort out all the problems

Just a thought. I am only an amateur but I have fitted 3 baths and also repaired a bath seal that constantly leaked. In 2 of the 4 baths there was excessive movement because the bath was stood on boards that had been cut short of the joist. Always worth looking underneath.

Good point Easyt, i make sure the legs on mine are sat on either 4x2 or similar timber to spread the load

OK thanks . Messing about underneath baths is not someyhing i'm confident with - this bead seems very flexible - it's about 15mm - the lip that glues to the wall with addy is similar to trim backing , allowing the rest to move.

I didn't use the tanking/plasterboard tape . You can just see in the pic the bead which is ' homelux pro seal ' which allows for 15mm movement . Looks neat as well - does anyone use this as a slightly more expensive alternative to sealant?

sorry to be a damper,(make your own jokes up) but the homelux one has a leak in the corner because the edges aren't glued together. The tele seal one was glued together but both seals don't stick to the bath forever.
next time dave, secure the bath with batons, supports what ever and silicon between bath and wall before the tiles go on and a bead of silicon after tiling and you won't have any problems.

Thanks for that , there is actually silicon underneath the bead . I take your point about the seal not lasting forever.
I'm not sure if you can see it on the photo but the corner has a corner cover that fits over the joint and glues on with sealant adhesive which is suppiled.

Cheers for the advice
